Corporate Information - Company History
The original company was set up at East Midlands Airport as an office and laboratory for Non-Destructive Testers Ltd (part of the British Engine Insurance Group) in 1973. In its early days at East Midlands, Non Destructive Testers Ltd was a major supplier of technicians to the power stations in and around the Trent Valley and an aircraft inspection team was also established to fulfill inspection requirements of aircraft operators at East Midlands Airport.
As part of the aircraft inspection capabilities, a laboratory facility was developed to provide
radiographic, dye penetrant and magnetic particle examinations. It was at this time that investment
was made in an ultrasonic immersion tank, primarily for the inspection of forged aero engine disc
blanks and other rotating parts. Following the growth of this unit as a centre of operations in and
around the East Midlands, the company became NDT (Midlands) Ltd following a successful management
buy out in 1986.
As NDT (Midlands) Ltd, the Company continued to grow, particularly in the variety of services which it could offer from the laboratory base and a metallurgical laboratory was added to the Company portfolio.
"In 1996, NDT (Midlands) Ltd was renamed NDT Services Ltd and since then the continuing commitment
to quality, customer response and investment in equipment has seen the Company continue to
grow in terms of both turnover and reputation.
Early in 2007, acquisitions of Eurospection Ltd, followed by the non destructive and materials testing business of CoMech Metrology Ltd, significantly increased the UK and European site services capabilities and also the metallurgical/ mechanical testing services, making NDT Services Ltd one of the largest and most accredited privately owned testing companies in the UK.
